STEPHANIE JENNINGS | Studio 2018
PHOTOGRAPHY
Throughout her celebrity-tinged career Stephanie Jennings has photographed some great rock and roll bands. With her camera, Jennings has captured the rock and roll energy of AC/DC, INXS, The Replacements, Rod Stewart, En Vogue, Black Crowes, Sting, John Prine, the Stone Temple Pilots, and many more bands. She also traveled regularly to shoot the Grammys and MTV events, photographing supermodel Cindy Crawford and other celebrities. You can see original prints of these photos in Jennings’ studio, Studio 2018, at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment.
Jennings started shooting rock and roll bands at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. After graduating from Alabama in 1989, she moved to Philadelphia to manage a photography company. From Philadelphia, Jennings photographed bands all over the East coast. During her career Jennings was represented by photo agencies Famous Photo (London) and Lynn Goldsmith International (New York) and later the stock-photo agency Corbis.
While in Studio 2018 you can also see Jennings’ most famous photo, a black and white image known as “The Flying Jerry.” The photo is of Jerry Garcia onstage at Giants Stadium in 1992 with a mischievous grin on his face and his gray hair blowing in the wind, as he plays his guitar. “The Flying Jerry” is one of Jennings most iconic photos.
Today, Jennings shoots weddings, special events and editorial work — and the occasional concert. She also maintains an extensive collection of her rock and roll photography she has curated over the years which is available to view and purchase.
