Robert Stampas is a multi-talented artist, working across multiple mediums like oils, acrylics, and watercolor, but he's perhaps most known for his iconic detailed graphite drawings. Oil portraits became an early foundation of his work, followed by an increasing passion for the extraordinary precision and intimacy possible through hyper-realistic graphite portraiture. His subjects range from people and portraiture to wildlife, architecture and complex narrative compositions filled with extraordinary levels of detail.
Born and raised in Chicago, Stampas is a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran who began drawing and painting at the age of seven. Primarily self-taught, he's spent a lifetime developing an artistic voice rooted in realism, craftsmanship and an enduring fascination with detail.
