Mircea Lacatus, born in Transylvania, Romania, studied art from an early age, earning a sculpture, restoration, and pedagogy diploma from the National University of Fine Arts in Bucharest in 1989. Political events led him to Vienna, Austria, where he lived and worked for 22 years, including as a freelance artist for the Vienna Opera.

Since high school, he has exhibited extensively across Europe and participated in international symposiums in Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, Israel, India, and Japan. Now based in Huntsville, AL, he has been a guest artist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Oakwood University. His sculptures fuse surrealism and mythology, exploring universal human themes.
