MIKE WILLIAMS LOCAL ARTIST | Studio 272

Drawing

Mike Williams paintings are larger than life, just like the people he paints. Williams uses a unique painting technique, adding gel to oil paint, to create paintings with depth and texture you won’t find anywhere but Studio 273 at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. Stop in and hang out with Mike Williams and the celebrities hanging on his walls.

“I started taking private art lessons in fifth grade as a result from the encouragement from my school teachers and continued lessons through high school,” writes Mike Williams. “Once I graduated and was on my own, I couldn’t afford the lessons any longer so I turned to books to learn more and improve my technique. The book that I still reference to this day is Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards and I recommend it to any artist, experienced or not, who is interested in improving or building their skill.”

Things have changed for Mile the last few years, “In the last ten years I have started to paint and draw again, and am now at a point in my life where I have the opportunity to devote my time fully to my art,” says Williams. “I opened my studio at Lowe Mill A&E in February hoping to gain exposure and network with other artists and members of the community.”

Mike Williams has experience in using multiple mediums with a variety of techniques, including, but not limited to: oil, acrylic, charcoal pencil, colored pencil, pastel, chalk, acrylic gel pour painting and large performance pieces. Williams mainly created portraits, some landscapes and still life.
