DANCE

Josephine Glass has always been driven by a passion for movement, from climbing trees and mastering trampolines in her youth to pursuing gymnastics and martial arts like aikido, Krav Maga, and jiu-jitsu. Her journey into dance began at 18 when she discovered swing dancing and Lindy Hop, which quickly became her favorite form of expression.

Josephine earned a degree in Language and Linguistics, with a minor in Dance focused on education and kinesiology. In graduate school, her studies in cognitive sciences led her to research kinesthetic cognition, muscle memory, and the distributed cognition of partner dance.

As a swing dancer, Josephine's dedication to teaching began early—just months after she started dancing—driven by community demand. Over the years, she has taught at universities, organized events, performed at festivals, and led workshops across the southeastern United States. Her work has supported dance scenes in Memphis and beyond, and she even paid her way through graduate school through her teaching.

A USAF veteran, Josephine continued to share her love of Lindy Hop while on active duty, teaching and dancing in California and the Midwest. Her lifelong fascination with cultural and social dances inspired her to create Saturn Jive Dance Space, an organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating these vibrant human art forms by making them visible and accessible.

Josephine’s mission is clear: to bring people together through the joy and artistry of dance.
