Wild Alabama – Conservation through Art: 50 Years of Wilderness in Alabama
July 16 - September 20
Second Floor Connector Gallery
This exhibition round includes works provided by Wild Alabama which will be on view in the Second Floor Connector Gallery from July 16 – September 20, 2025. Lowe Mill A&E invites patrons and art lovers to join us for Open Studio Night, a building-wide experience when our over 150 studios will be open to the public. The evening also includes receptions for all seven of our gallery spaces. This series gives the public a chance to meet and interact with visiting artists and discuss their work as it is on display and available for purchase. Come out, enjoy a pleasant evening, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you! The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday, September 20 from 5-7 pm.
About the exhibit:
Each artist in this exhibit has a personal and profound relationship with the federal Wilderness areas in Alabama. Their paintings, photographs, book arts and writing are expressions of the inspiration by Alabama’s wildest places that have deeply influenced their work and their lives. The aim of this exhibit and its associated workshops, Forest Bathing walks, and Wilderness hikes is to bring awareness of the importance of the treasure of Wilderness for all living things, and to advance Wild Alabama’s mission to inspire people to enjoy, value and protect the wild places of Alabama.
2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the Eastern Wilderness Areas Act that gave us all three federal Wilderness areas in Alabama. This exhibit is a celebration of the persistent efforts of Alabamians who fought for the Act, and the wisdom of a Congress that gave it overwhelming bipartisan support.
