This exhibition round includes works provided by Jana Phillips which will be on view in the Second Floor South Gallery from February 8 - March 30, 2024.
Artist Statement: This series of paintings was created as I processed my journey through diagnosis of endometriosis. Each piece walks you through my story of understanding pain, undergoing surgery, symptoms, healing, and coming to terms with my feelings. Inspired by the women artists of the Dutch Golden Age, the plants, shapes, and colors are deep rooted in storytelling and symbolism. Many of the flora depicted have been used as methods of healing or representing women’s health throughout history. Using flora to take an internal look at this illness, I wish to bring awareness to endometriosis and what it does to the body.
