CALEB O’CONNER | STUDIO 1003

PAINTING, SCULPTURE

Caleb O’Connor’s studio is located behind a chain link fence in one of the more industrial sections of Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. But don’t let the surroundings fool you, O’Conner’s large-scale sculptures are detailed and evocative. His subjects seem to rise out of clay like water from a river baptism washing over someone’s face. As the water washes over the subject the image begins to emerge, a rising form from nothingness into a human form.

Caleb O’Connor works in oil painting, marble sculpture, and bronze sculpture is best known for its figurative realism. O’Connner’s work is often characterized as magic realism due to his ability to capture figures in motion and seemingly impossible situations that are made believable through attention to detail. Throughout all of his works is a continuous exploration of nature and the human experience.

These days, you can find O’Conner working in Studio 1003 with his new baby in his arms. The nuanced details in O’Conner’s work stands out in the industrial setting of his studio in our historic textile mill, just like the baby in his large, clay-covered hands.
