Shyfoxslyfox Studio is the creative space of photographic artist Connor McLeod who finds beauty in the bizarre and clarity in the deliberately analog. What began as a casual fascination with an old Soviet lens unexpectedly led to a deeper connection with photography. After popping a roll of film into the forgotten camera it came with, the resulting images—quirky, imperfect, and strangely magnetic—opened up a new creative direction. It marked the start of a quiet obsession: the textures of film, the challenge of manual controls, and the satisfaction of creating something real, start to finish.
With a background in mechanical engineering and a deep appreciation for the intricacies of vintage cameras, Connor thrives on the challenge of fully manual photography. No autofocus, no shortcuts—just the deliberate rhythm of connecting with a moment and capturing it with intention. Analog gear encourages a slower, more immersive process—one that keeps eyes on the world instead of the screen.
Connor’s work often leans into absurdism, shaped by time spent in the U.S. Army, where humor and surrealism can be found around every corner. That influence continues to echo through his images today—for example, in the ongoing “cats around the world” series: an ode to the innate ridiculousness of cats and the strange way humans (himself included) interact with them.
Currently, Connor is immersed in cyanotype, drawn to its rich blues and the joy of producing a tactile analog image under natural light. After moving from New York City to Huntsville for more SPACE, the journey led to a studio at Lowe Mill A&E—a creative hub that’s become a perfect home base for analog experimentation. Whether capturing Great Wall of China cats or local street scenes, the aim is to find—and honor—the strange, the lovely, the quietly absurd, and the beauty in everyday monotony for all humans.
