ANDREW LUY | STUDIO 271
SCULPTURE
On September 11, 2001, Andrew Luy’s life could have taken a dramatically different path. Just days before the attacks on the Twin Towers, his contract with an international bank ended, sparing him from being directly impacted that day. This pivotal moment shifted his perspective, prompting him to focus on what truly mattered.
While pursuing his MBA, Andrew discovered his passion for art and began studying under renowned sculptor Rhoda Sherbell at The Art Students League in New York. Balancing a full-time job on Wall Street with graduate studies, he committed to developing his artistic skills, building a portfolio that allowed him to attend art residencies and receive commissions. His love for sculpture continued to grow despite his demanding corporate career, where he led a team at a top electronic bond trading company.
During the pandemic, Andrew leaned into his art more than ever, engaging in virtual exhibitions and refining his craft. This passion led him to relocate from New York City to Huntsville, AL, where his spacious new studio allowed him to focus fully on his work. He now creates sculptures for local parks, connecting with the community through his art.
The early loss of important people in Andrew’s life taught him the value of meaningful connections. He treasures shared experiences and moments with loved ones, using his art to bring people together. Sculpting has sharpened his focus, helping him realize his unique talent for creating bonds and fostering relationships through his artistic endeavors.
