BRIANA ZIERMAN-FELIX | STUDIO 2005
PAINTING
Briana Zierman-Felix is painting the story of her life.
Growing up she was never very good at putting feelings into words, so she found a way to turn them into art. She met with the school’s counselor once a week who taught her how to draw out emotions that had been suppressed. Instead of writing letters to family members, Zierman-Felix was instructed to draw what she wanted to tell them.
Zierman-Felix creates are bold, both in size and color. Her process is free-flowing and fast paced to stay in tune with each story she’s trying to tell, almost like a dance with the canvas. Every piece starts off with a source, sometimes a poem, spray paint and a set of acrylic inks. Using a technique she likes to call “kissing the canvas” to give the inks a nudge in the right direction but allowing them to mix and move however they desire.
