Caroline Wang is a passionate individual who has seamlessly merged her love for both science and art. She is a watercolor artist as well as a retired NASA engineer and researcher. Her life’s journey is a fascinating blend of two cultures: her upbringing in Taiwan and her later embrace of American culture. This fusion of influences ignited her deep-rooted passion for creativity and knowledge, ultimately leading her to pursue a full-time career in art after retiring from NASA.

Caroline discovered her artistic gift at the age of five, finding joy in drawing anything and everything. With just a pencil and paper, she could keep herself happy for hours. She took private lessons from various teachers, studied formally at the University of Minnesota’s art school, and later earned a master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin. Over the years, Caroline has received many significant awards, beginning with first place in the Taipei City Elementary School Art Contest. Her watercolor Rocks in Mexico " was placed in the top 10 of the Watercolor Society of Alabama’s National Online Contest in 2012. Snow Day also ranked in the top 10 in 2011, while Venice, Louisiana, received the Best in Show award at the Tennessee Valley Art Association’s 31st National Art Competition: Exhibition South in 2005.

Caroline’s artistic style uniquely blends Asian and Western painting techniques and cultural influences. She draws inspiration from the simplicity and elegance of Asian brushwork, as well as the freedom and versatility of Western art, working with a wide range of materials and tools. Her scientific and engineering background continues to fuel innovation and creativity in her artistic process.

Her original works have been exhibited widely across the Southeastern United States. What fulfills her most is sharing her experiences and her love for art and science with others. She has dedicated a significant portion of her time to teaching art classes and delivering inspirational talks to schools and nonprofit organizations. Through exhibitions and lectures, Caroline aims to spark curiosity and inspire individuals to discover their creative potential.

Caroline’s art encompasses a diverse range of subjects, including wildlife, botanicals, birds, figures, landscapes, City landscapes, and space exploration. She firmly believes that an artist’s mind knows no boundaries. Her years of practicing Chinese calligraphy, from 3rd through 12th grade, laid a strong foundation for her mastery of watercolor brushstrokes. While writers tell stories with words, Caroline tells stories through her paintings. Her passion for space exploration has inspired her to use watercolor—an ideal medium with its fluidity and expressive power—to portray galaxies, spacecraft, and the mysteries of the cosmos. Since 2001, she has created an extensive collection of space-themed works, using art to share the wonder of exploration with students and the public alike.

Her first book, Space Exploration Stories by Caroline’s Watercolor Strokes, introduced NASA’s missions through art, offering the public an accessible way to connect with complex science. Encouraged by its success, Caroline went on to publish four more art books, each documenting her paintings and the stories behind them. She believes every painting carries a story worth preserving.

Her five books include:

1. Space Exploration Stories by Caroline’s Brush Strokes
2. From Artist’s Eyes
3. Wild Lives
4. Watercolor Landscapes
5. Less is More
