Andy Kruspe is a freelance percussion instructor and bodhrán player at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. He is active as a teacher and clinician and has taught at several workshops, including The O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat (Midlothian, Texas), Tune Junkie Weekend (Oak Ridge, TN), The Craiceann Bodhrán Summer School (Inis Oírr, Ireland), and The Gaelic College (St. Ann’s, Nova Scotia, Canada). Andy has also written four method books for the drum- First Steps: A Beginner’s Guide to the Bodhrán, The Bodhrán Primer, Playing the Tune: Techniques for Accompanying Irish Traditional Music on the Bodhrán, and In Session + One (with Scottish bodhrán player Martin O’Neill).

Andy instructs students online and in-person, and folks enjoy working with him. Laurence from Liverpool, UK says, “Andy Kruspe is a teacher who, firstly, thoroughly knows his stuff and secondly, has the wherewithal to convey it skillfully and successfully to students. His preparation is meticulous, his presentation is methodical, clear and totally engaging – the marks of a really good teacher.”

He has performed with several groups throughout the southeastern United States, including Black Market Haggis, Doon the Brae, Milltowne, Mithril, SlipJig, Candace Corrigan, the Liminal Duo, and 2nd Breakfast.

In addition to his teaching and performing, he is also involved in organizing some of the musical offerings that visitors can experience at the Mill. You can find him promoting shows at Tangled String Studios, hosting Lowe Mill’s Concerts on the Dock, or helping to organize the NoHaCoDa- North Hall Contra Dance.
