SUMMARY:Maddie Wideman - And Therefore\, I Have Hope.
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by Maddie Wideman which will be on view in the First Floor West Gallery from March 4 – May 30\, 2026.  Lowe Mill A&E invites patrons and art lovers to join us for Open Studio Night\, a building-wide experience when our over 150 studios will be open to the public.  The evening also includes receptions for all seven of our gallery spaces. This series gives the public a chance to meet and interact with visiting artists and discuss their work as it is on display and available for purchase. Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, May 30 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nThis collection of work explores the wrestling that comes with the journey of reconciliation of self. Guided by my love for Jesus\, I created this work with the intent to reflect biblical compassion and empathy and to invite others into the same freedom and healing He has given me-with the hope it does the same for viewers. These pieces are inspired by songs that marked specific seasons of my life\, functioning as anchors for memory\, grief\, and endurance. I used various iconography\, texture\, and movement of color to create tangible expressions of both deep lament over the past and gritty faith moving toward sanctification. Mixed media allows for accumulation\, interruption\, and revision\, which mirrors the emotional landscape of the work. Each piece is also a reflection of my own journey-honest\, sometimes messy\, but always rooted in redemption from the Lord. My hope is that as you experience this space\, you feel seen\, known\, and encouraged-no matter what you have walked through. \n  \nAbout the artist: \nMaddie Wideman is a faith-based mixed media artist based in Atlanta\, GA. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Samford University\, where she discovered her love for mixed media and watercolor and developed a personal style that reflects both whimsy and depth.  \nShe has won multiple juried art shows\, has shown in local galleries\, and has participated in exhibitions in both Georgia and Alabama. She has taught watercolor through Samford’s Academy of the Arts and Peachtree Art Center in Georgia and now creates watercolor guest portraits for wedding events. She is currently developing ideas for an upcoming solo exhibition at the Gallery at Johnson Ferry in 2027. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Leigh Ann Edmonds - The Memory Wall
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by  Leigh Ann Edmonds which will be on view in the First Floor West Gallery from November 26\, 2025 – February 28\, 2026. The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, February 28 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nThe Memory Wall is an exploration with how we use photography as memory\, connection  and conversation as she emphasizes how photographs are the memories we leave behind  after we are gone. They become stories of our life experiences\, memories of past travels\,  and they document loved ones we once knew.  \nLeigh Ann is wanting viewers to reflect on how we often use photographs to build  memories and stories to share with others. It is through photo collage\, traditional matte  and frame and her classic approach to photography with vintage film cameras that she  wants others to feel they have stepped into another era of photography.  \nHer use of black and white film helps to create a nostalgic and reminiscent approach of  today’s modern world we live in. The images are a continuation of what was and what is and how our memory connects the past to the present. \n  \nAbout the artist: \nLeigh Ann Edmonds is a documentary photographer from Birmingham\, Alabama. Her work  predominantly explores the land\, culture and people of the American South and is often  described as timeless\, gritty and soulful. Leigh Ann is the 2025 recipient for the Gay Burke Memorial Fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. She studied under the late Gay Burke at UA and obtained a BA in  Studio Art from the University of Alabama in 2004 with a concentration in photography.  \nLeigh Ann believes that her work is a journal of her life\, the people she meets and the  places she explores and hopes to document in a way that helps to commemorate and  preserve the era in which she lives.

The activities night became a political discourse with the community members attending. Nights have been spent making protest poster for rallies and letting people voice their views through art. Pieces in this show came from group efforts. Promoting mutual aide fundraisers. Using words mixed with visual images to spread awareness for social injustices. Even voicing that our community did not want someone who so happy for genocide performing in our area and sharing the art to help promote canceling their performance. \nArt can make a difference\nIt can move\nIt can heal\nUse your expressive ways to change things\nDo it.\n  \nAbout the artist: \nGregory Price\n*gory price\n*rogue atom\nT shirt aficionado\nDaily doodler\nAging punk rocker\nPoor and unknown\nLoving life\nAs a mountain side dweller\nNear Birmingham\nWith my cooler than me kid\n	Notice to Visitors\nArt is vastly different and can be edgy in both form and content. This exhibition is a body of work reflecting on the presence and importance of the physicality held in objects. These altered and re-contextualized forms represent the dense honesty three dimensions can have\, while simultaneously being multifaceted conceptually. Conditions for Progress is an inside look into how as an artist\, I know to process and reimagine life beyond the language I speak and represent it in sculpture. \n  \nAbout the artist: \nMy name is Nate Husser from Madison\, Alabama. I am a 2025 Graduate from the University of North Alabama where I majored in Sculpture. I have been practicing and creating in different mediums of art from photography\, filmmaking\, to collage the last 10 years of my life. Sculpture has taken over as my main form of creative expression and fascination. With my sculpture I am able to create\, replicate\, and alter different forms to change or elevate their meaning. This being said\, I consider myself a conceptual artist. I am always questioning and trying to derive new meaning from my surroundings.  \n

SUMMARY:Friends of Cattyshack - The Feline Gaze: Art By & For Cats
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by Friends of Cattyshack which will be on view in the First Floor West Gallery from April 30 – July 12\, 2025. The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, July 12 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nIf cats were to experience and interact with art the way humans do\, what would they enjoy seeing? What materials\, tools and techniques would they use to make art? What would they want to see on display in their own homes? What subject matter would inspire them? \nThese may seem like absurd questions\, but they allow us to explore our own imagination and see art in a new way. The works in this show represent several local artists’ answers to just those questions. Each one was asked to imagine what art would look and feel like for cats.  \nAll works will also be up for auction online starting Saturday\, June 14th during our annual event\, Rocket City Kittypalooza. Funds raised will go directly toward caring for Cattyshack’s cats and paying vet bills.  \n  \nContributing Artists: \nCats:\n \nChandler \nMargo \nFancy \nFletcher \nMinnie Pearl \nNemo \nHelena \nFinn \nLitha \nMittens\n \n  \nHumans: \nKimberly Muse \nStephanie Flier @deltadogwoodstudio \nStacy Neuberger \nKaio Chambers @Clownovaa \nCarrie Rice @moonmaidenarts  \n  \n  \nAbout the organizer: \nCattyshack Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue and adoption of shelter cats in Alabama. Whether shielding secrets or celebrating the human body\, the pubic wig has been used to hide\, to protect\, and to speak.  \nThis exhibition is a collection of works by women artists making their voices heard through visual representation. We invite you to look\, to think\, to challenge\, and to discuss the conversations put before you through these artworks. \n  \nAbout the artists: \nAmanda Banks is a multidisciplinary artist and award-winning research scientist. \nCheryl Busick is currently exploring printmaking techniques\, and how she can play with them\, usually in a story or myth driven manner. \nKana Clark is a visual artist who uses encaustic beeswax painting to explore cosmic themes\, blending layers of wax to create otherworldly\, textured works that transcend earthly boundaries. \nAnna Sue Courtney has maintained a practice of visual and performing arts for over 50 years. \nSusie Garrett draws and sculpts\, combining unlike materials leading to clever and sometimes humorous results.  \nLauren Passwater is a multimedia artist exploring expression through juxtaposition. \nKami Watson is an award-winning\, working and teaching\, second generation fiber and textile artist. \n

SUMMARY:Bradley Williams - Walking Home From the Grief Mine
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by Bradley Williams which will be on view in the First Floor West Gallery from November 27\, 2024 – February 8\, 2025. The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, February 8 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nIn 2015 standing in an open field from my youth\, consumed with grief and confusion\, I burned all my journals and notebooks. Then the next morning I began writing\, searching for all I lost. Years stack on until the lockdowns of 2020. In the process of another round of loss I began a conversation with myself to help me reconnect to the world—specifically what was before me—my small patch of dirt and the Southern California areas known as the San Gabriel Mountains and the edges of the Western Mojave Desert. These pieces started as a notebook full of small drawings set forth as a single circle drawn through and with a breath\, followed by sketching a simple rendition of the landscape before me\, or what was seen through memory\, then allowing for a lose/free thought to arrive as words in an attempt to stitch up the moment. With encouragement from friends it then began to evolve to these points. \nAbout the artist: \nBradley grew up in a memory he calls Lizard Lope\, Alabama\, more commonly referred to as St. Clair County. He is a member of two labor unions and a graduate of Auburn University. Currently he lives and works in Los Angeles\, California. He walks a lot\, writes poems\, longer stories\, as well as a song two. He quit drinking over a year ago. \n  \nInstagram: @goatswamp \n  \nTo find the the gallery in Lowe Mill A&E\, click MORE INFO below (Tickets are NOT required.)

SUMMARY:Lavie's Brain - Headphones Encouraged
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by Lavie’s Brain which will be on view in the First Floor West Gallery from October 2 – November 23 2024. The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, November 23 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \n“Headphones Encouraged” is an exhibit that explores the intersection of music and visual art as a form of meditation. As the creator behind this exhibit\, I found myself drawn to the idea of using the music that inspired each piece as a catalyst for creativity and introspection and then condensing them all into zines. Each piece in the gallery is a reflection of the emotions and experiences that emerge from the fusion of sound and visual art. The concept behind “Headphones Encouraged” originated from a desire to share my sketchbook pieces and zines with the world in a meaningful way. \nEvery zine in the exhibit is accompanied by a song (Qr Code) that served as the inspiration behind the piece. Music has always played a crucial role in my artistic process\, with each creation being born out of hours spent listening to a particular song on repeat. By inviting viewers to listen to the music associated with each zine\, “Headphones Encouraged” encourages a deeper connection with the art\, inviting comfort\, focus\, and reflection. \nOne of the staples of my artistic practice is the use of unconventional second-hand supplies to create my art. I believe that beauty can be found in the unexpected and the discarded\, and I strive to breathe new life into forgotten materials through my creations. \n“Headphones Encouraged” is a space where viewers can pause\, listen\, and immerse themselves in the transformative power of art and music. It is my hope that this exhibit will inspire others to embrace the beauty of the present moment and find inspiration in the harmonious blend of creativity and sound in the world of zines. \n  \nInstagram:  @laviesbrain \nTo find the the gallery in Lowe Mill A&E\, click MORE INFO below (Tickets are NOT required.) \n

SUMMARY:Kimberley A Brown and Jess Braden - Laboring in/to Obscurity
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by Kimberley A Brown and Jess Braden which will be on view in the First Floor West Gallery from July 31 – September 28\, 2024. The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, September 28 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \n“If men had babies\, there would be thousands of images of the crowning”– Judy Chicago \nWe labor as phantoms. Our sweat\, tears\, and successes are invisible. \nThroughout the pages of history\, women are left making decisions of consequence– unrewarded for our successes or left standing in the spotlight of our failures. Our achievements are only celebrated through the involvement of male counterparts. \n“It’s just women’s work.” \nLike the impressionists\, If we are praised\, it is for quiet depictions of gentle pastimes. Because women who know their place are always cause for celebration. What glorious inactivity! Women’s work. \nOur labor as women has always been modified and blunted by this moniker. \nWe do not need our current education as Art & Art History students to know this fact. But it reminds us of the depth of its charges. \nWe will be seen. \nOur education is not a waste. We will explore every form\, read every book\, unearth the inspirations of artists past. We will try all the ways\, and all the means. We won’t let the bastards grind us down. \nOur histories have been re-written. \n  \nhttps://kimberleyabrown.com/ \n  \nTo find the the gallery in Lowe Mill A&E\, click MORE INFO below (Tickets are NOT required.)
