SUMMARY:The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection
DESCRIPTION:Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment shares The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection featuring known and unknown works from the life of Theodor Seuss Geisel. Artworks will be on display and available for acquisition. \nFor over 60 years\, Dr. Seuss’s illustrations have brought a visual realization to his fantastic and imaginary worlds. His artistic talent went far beyond the printed page and yet\, to this day\, his Secret Art Collection is virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime\, Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) created paintings and sculpture\, which he secreted away at the Dr. Seuss Estate.  \n  \nAnn Jackson Gallery will share a compelling selection of artworks from The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment\, 2211 Seminole Drive SW\, Huntsville\, AL\, Thursday\, Feb. 12 – Saturday\, Feb. 14. Visitors may explore and acquire works from Dr. Seuss’s best-known children’s books\, as well as The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss\, a mindexpanding collection based on decades of artwork\, which Dr. Seuss created at night for his own personal pleasure. Perhaps the wackiest and most wonderful elements of the collection are Dr. Seuss’s three-dimensional “Unorthodox Taxidermy” sculptures with names such as Carbonic Walrus\, Two-Horned Drouberhannis\, and Goo-Goo-Eyed Tasmanian Wolghast\, to name a few.  \nAdditionally\, Ted’s cat was never far from his artist thoughts. He drew himself as The Cat Behind the Hat\, his cat was the protagonist in several of his Secret Art paintings and\, as a fun aside\, many of his early advertisements and cartoons had a “cat bystander” witnessing all the action. They hinted at his adventures across the world\, his reclusive sensibility despite his fame\, and his penchant for the childlike fantasy and humor\, which infused nearly every facet of his life.  \nDespite the unprecedented demand during his lifetime\, no limited-edition artworks were ever conceived\, authorized\, or created until this historic project began in 1997\, six years after Geisel’s death. That year\, this exclusive project put into motion a series of artworks and exhibitions\, which firmly established him as one of the most iconic artistic talents of the 20th century.  \nEach of these Estate-Authorized limited editions has been adapted and reproduced from Theodor Seuss Geisel’s original drawings\, paintings\, or sculptures. Additionally\, each work bears a posthumously printed or engraved Dr. Seuss signature\, identifying the work as an authorized limited edition commissioned by the Dr. Seuss Estate.  \nIn her preface to the popular coffee table book on this collection\, The Cat Behind the Hat\, Audrey Geisel (Ted Geisel’s widow) writes\, “I’m gratified to carry out Ted’s wishes and have these works revealed to the world.” Join us for a fascinating glimpse into the unique artistic vision of Theodor Seuss Geisel!

All works are available to purchase – See John Lennon as May saw him! \nMay Pang will be in attendance at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment all weekend\, meeting customers and telling stories behind these amazing limited-edition photographs for sale of John Lennon. \nDuring the Lost Weekend\, with May’s help\, Lennon had his most artistically and commercially productive period post-Beatles-with the albums “Mind Games”\, “Walls and Bridges”\, which included his only #1 Hit Single “Whatever Gets You Through the Night”\, “Rock and Roll” and collaboration with Rock legends Elton John\, David Bowie\, Harry Nilsson\, Mick Jagger\, and Ringo among others. Also\, on that album Pang can be heard on the song “#9 Dream” where she whispers John’s name in the song.  Another song on the album “Surprise\, Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox)” was written about Pang. \nPang also encouraged Lennon to reconnect with his family and his friends\, which ultimately led to a reunion with Paul McCartney and a memorable jam session between the two Beatles.  Pang also arranged for Julian Lennon to visit his father for the first time in almost three years.  One of Pang’s photographs of Julian Lennon graces the cover of Julian’s latest album entitled “Jude.” \nLennon also went into the studio with friend Harry Nilsson during this time and produced his album “Pussy Cats.”  It was during this time that Pang rented a house in Santa Monica and moved in with Lennon and fellow partiers Ringo Starr\, Keith Moon (The Who) and Harry Nilsson.  Several photos from this time also appear in the exhibition.  Other highlights of the exhibition include the only photograph that exists of John Lennon signing the contract to dissolve the Beatles as well as one of the last known photographs of John Lennon and Paul McCartney together from March 29\, 1974 (51 years ago this weekend)!  Both photographs have never been available to the public until now. \nPang has also published three books on her times with Lennon including Loving John\, John Lennon – The Lost Weekend and Instamatic Karma featuring photos from her private archives. \n“The Lost Weekend – The Photography of May Pang” coincides with the digital release of the feature film documentary “The Lost Weekend : A Love Story\,” produced by Briarcliff Entertainment. Watch the film’s trailer here: https://www.MayPangPhotography.com/lost-weekend-documentary/      (Available on Amazon Prime\, AppleTV\, YouTube. Xfinity\, Verizon and Vudu). \n“The Lost Weekend – The Photography of May Pang” exhibition will provide fans a rare opportunity to see John Lennon in a new light\, through the lens of someone who knew him intimately during one of the most creative periods of his life.  Pang’s photos will be on display and available to purchase for three days only.  Check out the show and meet May Pang at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment\, 2211 Seminole Drive SW\, Huntsville\, AL\, Thursday\, May 29 through Saturday\, May 31\, 2025.
