SUMMARY:Sean Star Wars - Carve Forever!
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by Sean Star Wars which will be on view in the North Floor Gallery from November 27\, 2024 – February 8\, 2025.  Lowe Mill A&E invites patrons and art lovers to join us for Open Studio Night\, a building-wide experience when our over 150 studios will be open to the public.  The evening also includes receptions for all seven of our gallery spaces. This series gives the public a chance to meet and interact with visiting artists and discuss their work as it is on display and available for purchase. Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, February 8 from 5-7 pm. \nArtist statement: \nI choose the format of the large scale color woodcut because it best suits my energy charged\, caffeine induced\, aggressive approach to image making.  Charles Bukowski\, Ms Pacman\, Phillip Guston and Neil Blender are among my influences. Somewhere along the way\, I realized that I could accomplish my goals as an artist without enslaving myself to the meticulous obsessions of “traditional” printmaking. I don’t slow down to make perfect drawings or to finesse my color registration. I hammer out the carvings and blast out the prints\, and move on to the next print\, the next day. My primary concern is to create a strong visual infused with a sense of satirical humor\, in other words I like to tell funny stories using funny pictures. \nArtist bio: \nSean Star Wars lives in Laurel\, MS with his wife and five children.  Sean earned his MFA in Printmaking from Louisiana State University. In addition to making woodcuts for over thirty years\, Sean has been an Adjunct Professor\, a janitor and a used car salesman. Sean currently works fulltime as a printmaker and he makes about a dozen visiting artist appearances a year at many of the nations’ leading art programs.  Sean is a proud member of the legendary Outlaw Printmakers and his work is in numerous public and private collections.   Star Wars’ work can be seen on book covers\, album covers\, magazines\, television programs\, films and commercials.  He is currently embarking on his most challenging project ever\, a woodcut a week “FOR LIFE”.  Sean drinks more Mountain Dew than anyone who has ever lived and he can beat you at Ms. Pacman.  \n  \nInstagram: @seanstarwars \nWebsite: Woodcut Funhouse

Rent Parties are where you get your friends together to dance\, and they pay what they can to help you make your rent. Everyone has a good time. \nAnd that’s what we’re doing! It’s a house party at our new studio home in Lowe Mill A&E! It’s fun and low pressure\, we don’t have an official lesson but we’ll be happy to show you some moves. You can bring your own snacks to share\, or not\, same with drinks. \nThis is a community building event. Yes\, we dance but Friday Nights are for being together as a community. Being with our friends and doing the thing we love. Swing dance is one of those things!  \nWe’ll have dj-ed music\, but if any musicians wish to come and play with us\, please feel free!

No high kicks\, leaps\, or hard shoes required\, just a desire to have fun dancing Ceilidh party dances.  Be ready to join in the sets for St. Patrick’s Day or Burns Night or any other time there’s celtic music available to dance to. \nThe goal of this class is to teach you the basics of Irish and Scots ceilidh dances\, along with some of the more widely known dances. \nWhile we probably can’t cover dances from all seven Celtic Nations\, we’ll do our best to present a wide selection of celtic dance and have a good time dancing it. No previous experience or partners required. Learn everything you ever wanted to know about Celtic dance but were afraid to ask. \nThis is a drop in friendly pay in person class.
