SUMMARY:Garland Farwell - Stars Fell
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by Garland Farwell which will be on view in the Second Floor Connector Gallery from April 30 – July 12\, 2025.  Lowe Mill A&E invites patrons and art lovers to join us for Open Studio Night\, a building-wide experience when our over 150 studios will be open to the public.  The evening also includes receptions for all seven of our gallery spaces. This series gives the public a chance to meet and interact with visiting artists and discuss their work as it is on display and available for purchase. Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, July 12 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nStars Fell is part of an ongoing examination of folk art and quilting as visual  narratives. Crafted from salvaged wood and tin\, the works play a role in the  preservation of memory and the acknowledgement of human experiences through  generations. It is an intersection of aesthetics and function.  \nStars Fell references ‘Stars Fell on Alabama’\, a 1934 novel by Carl Carmer about his  experiences living in Alabama as a young transplant from New York. Writing about  the people\, places\, and events he witnessed\, Carmer illuminated the ordinary and  extraordinary of Alabama. Its myths and legends alongside its everyday life. Similarly\, the Stars Fell exhibit pays homage to Alabama in that the raw material of  the work was found here only. Each board and slat bears witness and tells many  stories. It is my hope that the work reflects back the experiences of multitudes.  \n  \nAbout the artist: \nAfter many years working as a theater and puppetry artist in New York City I  journeyed to the Alabama Black Belt to explore Folk Art\, Rural Art\, and Outsider Art.  In this journey I’ve found great inspiration and discovered new creative paths. An  intended two-month stay in rural Alabama has morphed into more than 16 years.  My art practice has transformed to reflect this new environment. By adapting the  practical and humble approach to life and creativity of the people of the rural south\,  my process has become more streamlined and the work\, while encountering its  share of challenges\, flows more effortlessly.  \nWhile art and design traditions such as quilting and hex sign painting are major  influences on my work\, the primary materials of my practice are reclaimed wood\,  rusted metals\, and old house paint.   \nI prioritize natural processes of deterioration and decay\, often weaving in fragments  of the scorched and burned. In this regard\, my function is artist as well as principal  organizer. Climate\, the environment and time are my collaborators\, determining  textures\, tones\, and depth of colors.   \nWebsite \nInstagram \n  \n

SUMMARY:THE LOST WEEKEND: THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF MAY PANG
DESCRIPTION:MAY PANG\, JOHN LENNON’S COMPANION & LOVER DURING HIS “LOST WEEKEND” ERA TO SHOWCASE HER CANDID PHOTOS OF LENNON AT A SPECIAL THREE-DAY FREE EXHIBITION AT LOWE MILL ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT IN HUNTSVILLE\, AL\, THURSDAY\, MAY 29 – SATURDAY\, MAY 31\, 2025 \nEXHIBITION ENTITLED “THE LOST WEEKEND: THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF MAY PANG” COINCIDES WITH THE DIGITAL RELEASE OF THE FEATURE FILM DOCUMENTARY ON LENNON AND PANG “THE LOST WEEKEND: A LOVE STORY” \nMAY PANG TO APPEAR AT SHOW TO MEET AND GREET CUSTOMERS \nFew people knew John Lennon as intimately as May Pang.  Pang was Lennon’s lover during the infamous “Lost Weekend” which lasted 18 months during late 1973 through 1975.  During this highly creative time for Lennon\, Pang took candid photos of Lennon in a comfortable\, relaxed environment.  A collection of these private photographs will be on display and available for purchase at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment\, 2211 Seminole Drive SW\, Huntsville\, AL.\, on Thursday\, May 29 through Saturday\, May 31.  Admission to the exhibit is free to the public. All works are available to purchase – See John Lennon as May saw him! \nMay Pang will be in attendance at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment all weekend\, meeting customers and telling stories behind these amazing limited-edition photographs for sale of John Lennon. \nDuring the Lost Weekend\, with May’s help\, Lennon had his most artistically and commercially productive period post-Beatles-with the albums “Mind Games”\, “Walls and Bridges”\, which included his only #1 Hit Single “Whatever Gets You Through the Night”\, “Rock and Roll” and collaboration with Rock legends Elton John\, David Bowie\, Harry Nilsson\, Mick Jagger\, and Ringo among others. Also\, on that album Pang can be heard on the song “#9 Dream” where she whispers John’s name in the song.  Another song on the album “Surprise\, Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox)” was written about Pang. \nPang also encouraged Lennon to reconnect with his family and his friends\, which ultimately led to a reunion with Paul McCartney and a memorable jam session between the two Beatles.  Pang also arranged for Julian Lennon to visit his father for the first time in almost three years.  One of Pang’s photographs of Julian Lennon graces the cover of Julian’s latest album entitled “Jude.” \nLennon also went into the studio with friend Harry Nilsson during this time and produced his album “Pussy Cats.”  It was during this time that Pang rented a house in Santa Monica and moved in with Lennon and fellow partiers Ringo Starr\, Keith Moon (The Who) and Harry Nilsson.  Several photos from this time also appear in the exhibition.  Other highlights of the exhibition include the only photograph that exists of John Lennon signing the contract to dissolve the Beatles as well as one of the last known photographs of John Lennon and Paul McCartney together from March 29\, 1974 (51 years ago this weekend)!  Both photographs have never been available to the public until now. \nPang has also published three books on her times with Lennon including Loving John\, John Lennon – The Lost Weekend and Instamatic Karma featuring photos from her private archives. \n“The Lost Weekend – The Photography of May Pang” coincides with the digital release of the feature film documentary “The Lost Weekend : A Love Story\,” produced by Briarcliff Entertainment. Watch the film’s trailer here: https://www.MayPangPhotography.com/lost-weekend-documentary/      (Available on Amazon Prime\, AppleTV\, YouTube. Xfinity\, Verizon and Vudu). \n“The Lost Weekend – The Photography of May Pang” exhibition will provide fans a rare opportunity to see John Lennon in a new light\, through the lens of someone who knew him intimately during one of the most creative periods of his life.  Pang’s photos will be on display and available to purchase for three days only.  Check out the show and meet May Pang at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment\, 2211 Seminole Drive SW\, Huntsville\, AL\, Thursday\, May 29 through Saturday\, May 31\, 2025.
